Honda Malaysia scores highest monthly sales ever thanks to new 2009 Honda City

The Honda City seems to be defying the current financial downturn as it has helped propel Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd achieve its highest monthly sales ever in history, bringing Honda market share up to 10% of the Total Industry Volume, in a market that has shrunk by 17.5% year on year. Honda scored 1,693 units of the Honda City in January 2009, which is nearly 50% of total Honda sales of 3,815 units. The Civic, Accord and CR-V scored sales of 734, 803 and 413 units respectively. Honda dealership traffic has also doubled ever since the City’s launch. Honda Malaysia has bumped up production for the City by 20% to shorten the waiting period and the Pegoh Plant in Malacca is running at full capacity on two 10-hour shifts and even the occasional runtime during holidays. Read our past coverage of the 2009 Honda City linked below.

Honda City Concept Debuts at Australian Motor Show

This is not a car slotted to reach North American soil anytime soon, if ever.
Already launched in Thailand last month, the all-new third-generation Honda City will hit Australian streets from February 2009. However, for the Australian International Motor Show, Honda is presenting a futuristic City model in concept form.
Foreshadowing the styling possibilities of the new light car, the City Concept features a redesigned front end with custom LED headlamps, fog lamps and tail lights, redesigned mirrors, 17-inch wheels and lowered ride height.
The City will be offered in two spec levels, ranging from $17,990 to $21,990. Power will be delivered via the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder found in the Jazz - to which the City is the sedan counterpart - making 88kW and offering a fuel economy better than 6.4L/100km.

Even More Pic's of the 2009 Honda City (again, not for north america)

Just some more pic's of basically a Fit sedan with the FCX front end. Looks really nice, but with how well the Civic and the Fit sell here in North America, I think that there'd be alot of 'self-cannabalization' within the lineup.

09 Honda City Spied in China

Again, there are no plans of bringing this slightly bigger version of the FIT in a sedan form to North America, but it will sell in the UK, Japan, and elsewhere. Looks alot like a BMW from the back end.

Another Look at the Next Gen Honda City

Not for North America. Get used to the new front end, I think it will be with Honda for awhile.

Here's a link to my previous article on the car;
